The racing fraternity watched in awe as Qatar raider Kalino won the world’s richest race for Purebred Arabians – the Euros 1.2 million Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown (Group 1) on Sunday, November 8, at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club race course as the curtain came down on the 2015 activities of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival.

In a stunning display, the HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani-owned Kalino, under big race jockey Olivier Peslier, outclassed some of the best Purebred Arabian horses to score a memorable win for trainer Alban de Mieulle.

A lady jockey Switzerland and a young Apprentice jockey from  Australia, made their respective Continents proud with superb victories on the Asian Continent on Sunday reiterating the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’s ‘One World, 6 Continents’ tag.

On a night when the world’s richest race for Purebred Arabians was held, Astrid Wullschleger proved that her win in her home country earlier in the year was no fluke as she topped a globe-trotting pack of lady riders to win the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) final at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club race course on Sunday, November 8.

A Gala Dinner party which had a lot of colour, music and joy along with an awards ceremony marked the end of the three-day HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Training and Education Conference organized by the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s ‘One World, 6 Continents’ before the big race meeting.

The mile’s contest, which will see horses based in the US, Europe and the Middle East region vying for a slice of the Euros 1.2 million, will also bring the curtain down on a fascinating week of the ‘One World, 6 Continents’ event and the 2015 activities of the Festival.

Abu Dhabi - Action continued in the  HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s ‘One World, 6 Continents’ on the second day of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Training and Education Conference while elsewhere the connections of the runners in the November 8 race meeting were gearing up for the big meeting on Sunday.

On Thursday, November 5, the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Training and Education Conference opened with Aref Alawani, Secretary General of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Dr Abdulla Rayess, Director General UAE National Archive, Sami Al Bouenain, Chairman of IFAHR, Essam Abdulla of Emirates Arabian in attendance.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday evening, November 4, at the Anantara Eastern Mangroves Ballroom, Ms Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, Chairperson of the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA) and Chairperson of Ladies & Apprentice Racing Committees in the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR), promised that the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Crown Jewel coupled with the finals o the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship  and the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice Championship were going to be entertaining affairs.

The General Assembly meeting of the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA), which was held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Eastern Mangroves Hotel in Abu Dhabi, approved 12 names to receive the Racing Scholarship Fund, RSF, a first of its kind mentorship programme initiated by the IFHRA.

The board had received 19 applications for the scholarship scheme out of which the RSF Selection Committee zeroed down on 12 applicants representing different countries. Those selected are Regan Bayliss from Australia, Ashley Edwards from Canada, Barbara Szentes from Hungary, Ryan McKeever from Ireland, Soungyi from Korea, Kamic Grzybowski from Poland, Nicolle Disdier from Puerto Rico, Eva Thilderkvist from Sweden, Vahdettin Kaplan from Turkey, Aaron West from the United States and Tom Marquand and Ryan Colley from the United Kingdom.

It was a dramatic night at the Hippodrome of Cidade Jardim in Sao Paulo, Brazil as the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival made a debut in Latin America with the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship (IFAHR) race on October 26.

Brazilian Apprentice jockey Roberlei Viana Filho was not on the starting list but got a chance to ride Heron HVP after Chilean jockey Benjamin Sancho failed to turn up.

Viana grabbed that opportunity and demolished the opposition to win on Heron HVP and clinch the final berth available to race in the final of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship (IFAHR) in Abu Dhabi on November 8, 2015.

Duindigt, The Netherlands - Raya C won the fifth and final race of the Wathba Stud Farm Cup series in The Netherlands, held under the umbrella of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival.

On Sunday, Raya C under Rebecca Danz got the better of AF Deema under Koeman Clijmans to win the Wathba Stud Farm Cup 5 at the Draf-en Renbaan Duindigt on Sunday, October 11.

Petruschka under Anthony Deau and Derham under Cindy Klinkenburg finished third and fourth respectively in the 8-horse field.

French Apprentice lady jockey Isis Magnin on the Awn Al Aidarous-owned Burj Al Arab won the Prix Fleur d’ Avril HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship race in Tarbes on Sunday, October 11, to become the 8th jockey to qualify for the championship finale on November 8 in Abu Dhabi.

In fact Magnin on the 4-year-old Burj Al Arab had finished second by a neck to Paxan ridden by Niven Marday from Mauritius but she lodged an objection on the grounds of interference by the latter on the home straight.

After an inquiry by the Stewards, Magnin’s appeal was upheld and Burj Al Arab was promoted to the winner’s position and Paxan under the Mauritian was relegated to second place. Sixteen-year-old Moroccan Omar Lakjal on Cristal De Ghazal and Georgia Cox on Forgehill Cartier finished third and fourth respectively. The winning time for the 1500-metre turf contest was 1:29.70.

HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship race in Tarbes on Sunday

Apprentice jockeys get their penultimate chance to book a berth in the final of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship race when eight of them faceoff in a 1500-metre contest in Tarbes in France on Sunday, October 11, 2015.

This is the 8th leg of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s  HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship series with the last one scheduled to be held in Sao Paulo in Brazil on October 25.

Swedish-bred 3-year-old gelding Macallan won the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Sprint Cup, a Group race held in Sweden.

The 1200-metre Wathba Stud Farm Sprint Cup, a Group 3 race, was held on October 8 at the Jagersro Racecourse with ten runners in contention.

Anna Pilroth rode the Dahess son Macallan to a narrow win over Ghallab under Per-Anders Graberg.

The UAE’s top endurance horse trainer Ismail Mohammed saddled two more winners for MRM Stables and that along with an individual gold by Saeed Al Mehairi and a team bronze by the lady riders more than made up for the unfortunate elimination of Afra Al Suwaidi in the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival-sponsored Italian Endurance Festival in Verona, Italy on Sunday, September 27.

The MRM Stables’ Ismail Mohammed-trained Descarado had already carried Saif Ahmed Al Mazroui to victory in the FEI World Championship for Young Horses on Saturday and the Dubai-based endurance stable swept the honours on Sunday with Saeed Al Mehairi on Za’Amah winning the 100-km HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival Cup and Ireland’s Amy Louis Mcauley on Souletoile de Sommant finishing first in the 100-km HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Endurance CEIO ride.

UAE lady riders confident of success in HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak ride

The UAE ladies team of riders, defending champions in the individual and team competitions of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival-sponsored HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Endurance CEIO ride, were confident of a good show in the 100-km event which will be held here in Verona, Italy on Sunday, September 27.

Afra Al Suwaidi, the individual gold medal winner and also member of the Team championship in last year’s ride said, “We are confident. We have had a feel of the terrain here and though it is a bit hot we are looking forward to a good ride tomorrow.”

Dominant display by Al Mazroui on Descarado

It was another triumph for the UAE, the MRM Stables and endurance horse trainer Ismail Mohammed after Saif Ahmed Al Mazroui on Descarado won the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival-sponsored FEI World Championship for Young Horses at the Italian Endurance Festival 2015 in Verona, Italy on Saturday, September 26.

Al Mazroui staved off a strong challenge from the Spanish and Italian riders as he negotiated the scenic but challenging course adjoining the Garda River in Segurta Park in 5 hours 26 minutes and 56 seconds at an average time of 22.02kmph.

Powell brothers shine in Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Triple Jewel

Los Alamitos, California - The Los Alamitos Racecourse prides itself as a venue where America’s top aged horses continue to shine and on Saturday it was So Big Is Better that justified that tag when as a 11-year-old he pipped odds-on favourite Paddys Day to win the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Diamond Jewel Grade Two contest over a mile.

The HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival breaks new ground on Sunday when eight amateur jockeys line up for the the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship at the Hippodrome Kazan in Tatarstan on Sunday, August 30, as part of the country’s National Day.

In the Festival’s second race of the day, Canadian apprentice jockey Brandon Duchaine brought Kasir Al Khalediah home in the sixth round of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship.

The 23-year-old Canadian apprentice jockey said he was over the moon after securing a berth in a dream final of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice Championship in Abu Dhabi.

In the Festival’s second race of the day, Canadian apprentice jockey Brandon Duchaine brought Kasir Al Khalediah home in the sixth round of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship.

London – Irish apprentice jockey Ian Queally partnered Karar to glory to book the fifth spot in grand final of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship (IFAHR) at the Sandown Park here on Friday, August 21.

“This is my first time on board an Arabian horse,” said the delighted Irish teenager later.

Scandinavian Derby winner W Catchcash bounced back to form in the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Copenhagen Cup held in the Danish capital on Saturday, August 22 .

Ridden by Anna Pilroth and trained by her mother Bodil Blomqvist W Catchcash won the 1800-metre grass contest with Al Haail under Per-Anders Graberg in second while Al Janoob under Manuel Santos finishing third.

It was a great race meeting at the Wellington race track in Ostend, Belgium on Monday, August 17, as Sahabba was spot on with a win in the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup (Group 3) while Briton Page Fuller clinched a berth in the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship.

Sahabba under Jean-Baptiste Hamel finished ahead of Labwah while Athlete Del Sol ran into third place in the 1600 metres turf contest which carried a purse of Euros 35,000.

HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival’s Friends Committee takes birth

During the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s World Arabian Horse Racing Conference held in Warsaw in May, a large number of the UAE connections of Purebred Arabian racing had raised many issues and the Festival had decided to provide a platform for them in the UAE.

As a result of that The HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Friends Committee (representing Purebred Arabian Horse Breeders, Owners, Trainers and Jockeys) was formed on Saturday, August 1, 2015.

Promising three-year-old filly Hania DA won the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud farm Cup IV held at the Draf-en Renbaan Duindigt on Sunday, July 26.

Sunday’s race was the fourth of the five Wathba Stud Farm Cup races scheduled to be held in The Netherlands.

With Victor and Lightning Bolt being non-starters, eight horses including winner of the previous Wathba Stud Farm Cup III – Rodin- started and the field included Fareedha, Pippa T Derham, Nabuko, Dicky and Nero DA.

HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival stages first-ever race in Norway

The HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival made its debut in Norway with a Wathba Stud Farm Cup race in Ovrevoll earlier this month. Labwah, trained by Mrs. Pia Hoiom and ridden by Pers-Anders Graberg won the 1800-metre race in which seven Arabian horses took part.

Labwah finished a quarter-of-a-length ahead of Daraahem under Charlotte Goss with W Catchcash under Anna Pilroth ion third place over four lengths behind.

Jomar Torres Roman from Puerto Rico became the third Apprentice to qualify for the final of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s 2015 HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship final to be held on November 8 in Abu Dhabi.

Roman revealed excellent skills when he steered 9-year-old Ayers to a narrow win by a neck from the Sam Vazquez-owned ES Mi Cielo to win Saturday’s HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship race in Sacramento, US.

Paddys Day kept himself in contention for the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s newly-introduced Triple Jewel bonus of US$ 150,000 with a superb win in the second leg here in Pleasanton, California on Sunday, July 5.

While Pleasanton in California, USA is all set to stage the two premier races of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival on July 5, elsewhere the Wathba Stud Farm Cup races are also being held simultaneously.

After winning the Wathba Stud Farm Cup on the Margaret de Ruiter-owned Rodin, O’Shea came up with a second run on Lahoob to finish ahead of European Triple Crown champion Ameretto under Mauro Manueddu and win the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup (Group 3), the second leg of the 2015 Triple Crown.

The European Triple Crown in the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup series organized by the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival comprises of three races in France, The Netherlands and Poland.

Nobas D.A ridden by Bart de Koninck won the H H Sheikh  Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival‘s Wathba Stud Farm Spring Cup, run on June 10 at the Hippodrome de Wallonie in Ghlin, Belgium.

The 1500-metre race which attracted nine runners was the second of the three Wathba Stud Farm Cup races to be held in Ghlin, Belgium under the support of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs  to boost Arabian racing at the grassroots level.  

Athlete Del Sol wins Sheikh Zayed Cup  

Trainer Karin van den Bos was deprived of a double when Briton Ann Stokell came up with a breezy finish on Mirabella Del Sol to deny Alibaba Del Sol even as the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festivaladded some Arabian flavour to the Swedish National Day celebrations.

Despite chilly conditions the Gardat in Stockholm was filled with enthusiastic racing fans and the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Listed Cup and the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship races provided classy fare with exciting contents.

The HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival staged the second race of the four Wathba Stud Farm Cup races to be held in France in 2015 at the Hippodrome La Teste De Buch.

Sha’hir, trained by Francis-Henry Graffard and ridden by Johan Victoire won the Euros 15,000 race by two lengths from the Jean-Piere Totain-trained Kerchera under Flavien Gamier. Julien Grosjean from Francisco Sanchez’ yard finished third a further length and a half behind.

It was an afternoon of celebration for two young lady jockeys after Morocco’s Bouchra Marmoul and Belgium’s Zoe Vande Velde won the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) race and the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship race respectively at the Sluzewiec racecourse in Warsaw, Poland on Sunday, May 31.

Abu Dhabi: For second successive year Uruguayan rider Jonatan Rivera Iriarte won the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Sheikh Mohammed Bin Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Endurance Cup 100 Km Endurance Ride at the Emirates International Endurance Village in Al Wathba, here on February 28.

Iriarte, who won this race last year on Al Salem, repeated the feat but this time his winning partner was eight-year-old cross-bred mare HH Ciabu, representing Al Ain Endurance Stables.

Isabella Teh on Djehlbi and Sweden’s Anna Pilroth on Keisha emerged winners in the H.H Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival races at Sportingbet Park, Sandown in Melbourne, Australia on Monday, January 26.

While Isabella Teh steered Djehlbi to a smart win in the prestigious Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup over 6.5 furlongs (1300 metres), Anna Pilroth on Keisha made it another Swedish win in the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Championship race series (7 furlongs, 1400 metres) as the two races were staged by NARA Australia and The Melbourne Racing Club to kick-start the 2015 racing season at Sandown.

As the first step in this direction Ms Lara Sawaya has been appointed the Manager of the new firm.

IFHRA all set to make international bow

Abu Dhabi – Stage is set for the declaration of the newly-formed equine body, the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA) with its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, it was announced here on Friday, November 2.

“The second of January is a memorable day in the history of horse racing. All arrangements have been completed to register the federation with the authorities pursuant to the decree issued under law No. 7 of 1980,” said Ms Lara Sawaya, the elected president of IFHRA.

It was a memorable night for UAE trainer Saeed Hadher Al Mazrouei who registered his first-ever career win when Live Rich won the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s
Wathba Stud Farm Cup series finale at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club on Sunday, November 9.

It was Saeed Hadher Al Mazrouei’s fifth runner in his fledgling career and Wathba Stud Farm Cup (Private Owners Only) and jockey Tadhg O’Shea partnered Live Rich to land the 1600m event which carried a cash purse of Dh 70,000.
