A field of 16 highly-rated runners, three from the US, three from Europe, three from the GCC nations and the rest from the UAE will line up for a slice of the Euros 1.2 million on offer which makes the Group 1 Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown the richest race for Purebred Arabian horses.

“I would like to thank the partners and sponsors without whom nothing would have been achieved. But it is the initiatives and vision of HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, that has driven the Festival to where it is today,” said Ms Lara Sawaya.

“The added value of the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown is that it carries the name of our father and it is being staged under the directives of HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs to follow in the footsteps of the founder of the nation,” Ms Sawaya said.

“We have received 57 nominations. All nominations received will be sent to the Emirates Arabian Horse Society (EAHS) to make the final decision on the horses which are eligible to take part. We will strictly abide by the rules and regulations of the EAHS, but the final selection of the 16 runners will be our decision,” she added.

Mr. Essam Abdulla of EAHS said, “The main objective is to improve the quality of our breeding because this is our identity and for this reason we need to protect our industry and ensure that we have the best lines of Purebred Arabian Sires and Dams.”

“We, as a governing body, have softened some of our restrictions at the beginning of this year and the third generation of banned stallions has been allowed to race in the UAE,” Abdulla clarified.

“I’m not in a position to name any of them at this moment, but we are updating our records and stud books to keep things going and the few restrictions which we are holding are necessary to protect our breeders and breeding process,” he said.
