Notwithstanding the tremendous success achieved by the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs has initiated the start of a Federation to nurture and give a positive direction to aspiring flat racing jockeys.

The result of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor’s instructions has now given birth to the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA), a body which will be headquartered in Abu Dhabi, the city which is now come to be recognised as the ‘World Capital for Purebred Arabian Racing.’

HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival races attract strong fields

It will be a historic night of racing at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club as the curtain comes down on the 2014 race series’ organized by the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival which include two world championship finals on November 9.

The feature event will of course be the Festival’s Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup, which is a Group 3 event and has a prize fund of DH 420,000 and will be run over a distance of 1,600 metres.

Abu Dhabi - November 6: The Purebred Arabian Horse Racing fraternity, assembled in Abu Dhabi for the finals of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival events, got a sneak peek of the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival, which will now be held over a 20-day period starting from November 20, 2014.

The contest is open only to 3-year-old fillies and starting favourite is Al Fahda the Qatari raider from Al Shaqab Stables. Unbeaten in two starts this year, the T. Fourcy-trained filly will be ridden by Vincent Cheminaud.

The 17th General Assembly meeting of the International Federation  of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR), which  was held at the Le Meridien Hotel in Paris on Monday, October 6 gave an additional responsibility to Ms Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and Chairman of Ladies Racing Committee in IFAHR as Chairman of Apprentice Jockeys and Racing in IFAHR.

Apart from this added responsibility on Ms Sawaya, the IFAHR meeting admitted two new members – Iran and Portugal; accepted and approved the rules of the Pattern Racing Committee and took a huge step forward with the creation of the IFAHR International Agreement  which aims to find a common set of standards that most countries can agree upon between them.

The HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Cup on Thursday, September 25, was the last of the three Group 3 races to be held in Scandinavia.

In Sweden’s Jagersro, it was Mad Makz that ended the big race on a winning note over 1200-metres on a dirt track and under floodlights.

The events were held in Kassel, Germany from August 22 to 24, 2014. The move comes within the keenness of His Highness to support and encourage the Arabian horse races in line with the privileged position enjoyed by the equestrian sport in the UAE.

The purebred Arabian Montashir was crowned champion of the Aseel International Purebred Arabian horse Cup during the closing ceremony.

Friday’s race was the third Wathba Stud farm Cup race to be held here in Colorado.

Once Breezell Lzp took the lead at the top of the stretch it became a one-horse race.  The 6-year-old chestnut mare ridden by Karlo Lopez powered clear for a 19 1/4-length victory in the 6-furlong race in 1:20.70.

Ten Line-up for honours in Sunday’s second race of series

The HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s newly launched H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship (IFAHR) series will work off its second race in Newbury, United Kingdom on August 3.

Gil Berenguer Carrera riding 12-year-old mare Nina Bin Menfis topped the 120-km ride with a ride time of 5 hours 49 minutes and 40 seconds to win the individual gold and also lead the Spanish team to a gold medal in the team championship.

French girl Nina Lissarrague on Ainhoa Catharissime prevented a Spanish sweep of the individual medals and came second with a timing of 5:52.09 while Spain's Paula Muntala Sanchez riding Shagya Irisz in 5:53.40 took the individual bronze.

Saturday, July 5, will be a big day in the United States for the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival.  Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colorado will host the Wathba Stud Farm Cup as part of the global festival.  Some of Arapahoe Park’s top Arabians will also travel to California to compete in other festival races at Pleasanton—the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup and the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship IFAHR Stakes.

Dutch trainer Miss Karin van den Bos scored yet another win in the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Cup (Copenhagen Cup) race at Klampenborg in Denmark on Sunday, June 30.

Despite a heavy downpour, Athlete Del Sol under Carlos Lopez came from the outside on the right-handed track to score over Labwah under Per-Anders Graberg. W Catch Cash under Anna Pilroth was a shock third while the relatively untested Niraan under Fabienne De Geer finished fourth. Mad Makz, front runner for most of the race under jockey Fanny Olsson finished fifth.

The venue will also host later in the afternoon, the second round of the 1400m Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup which carries a total purse of $47,000 and has attracted quality field of ten Purebred Arabian runners going to post.

The HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival returns to St. Moritz to stage the second running of the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Listed Cup at the famous St Moritz White Turf on Sunday, February 16. This would be followed a week later by the inaugural running of the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak World Ladies Championship on Sunday February 23, 2014 at the same venue.

ABU DHABI – Najem S’Heel came with a late run to land the season’s fourth running of the 1000m Wathba Stud Farm Cup For Private Owners Only, the fifth race on the card at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club on Sunday night, November 8.

Trained by Saifaldin Deep at Al Falah Stables in Sharjah on behalf of its owner Faisal Sameer Al Mahmoud, the five-year-old son of Big Easy produced a dramatic late surge to snatch the verdict in a tight finish. The exciting victory came just 30 minutes after the jockey and the winner’s trainer have been denied with Sahib Du Clos in the feature.
