Catchcash wins Wathba Cup in Copenhagen
Scandinavian Derby winner W Catchcash bounced back to form in the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Copenhagen Cup held in the Danish capital on Saturday, August 22 .
Ridden by Anna Pilroth and trained by her mother Bodil Blomqvist W Catchcash won the 1800-metre grass contest with Al Haail under Per-Anders Graberg in second while Al Janoob under Manuel Santos finishing third.
A year ago the 5-year-old Swedish bred son of Dormane had finished third to Athlete del Sol and Labwah in soft going. A year stronger he was back for another tilt and he was spot on in this second edition of the Wathba Stud Farm Copenhagen Cup.
Al Janoob had a couple of lengths to make up from the first running of the Copenhagen Cup. Always a solid performer Al Janoob had not scored since the White Turf, but the conditions were to his liking while Catchcash's connections were worried the going, though softish was too fast.
W Catchcash had been hard at the heels of the pace with Al Haail in his slipstream, but well into the straight it was a two horse race. Experience told as Catchcash ran on gamely to repel the persistent Al Haail to win by half a length while Al Janoob had too much to do from his position further down the field and finished third a length away.
Not having run for two years and being in trouble at the undulating backstretch Silaah ran a good race to pip the long- time leader Daraahem for fourth place home.
