Wathba Stud Farm Cup returns to Sweden

Stockholm- Stage is set for the 1200m Wathba Stud Farm Jagersro International Sprint (Group-3 PA) at the Jagersro Racetrack (dirt) with eight horses from Sweden, Iraq, Holland and Germany lining up for honours on Thursday afternoon (September 27).

The 16th round of the series is held under the directives of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, as part of the 4th edition of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival over 1200 metres and carries a total purse of Euro 16.828 in prize-money.

Top weight and defending champion Al Dahis, owned by Dr. Mohammad Al Nujaifi, trained by Damien de Watrigant, the well-bred Iraqi horse by Sherdhan ex Al Rabab has won seven of his 21 starts and has every chance to put his head first on Thursday.

Al Dahis have also won races over middle distance and finished second twice including Sweden Arabian Horses raceover 2200m and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup which is contested over a mile.

Other horses include Savonajan besides the six-year-old Ghazal de Tai by Bahr Tai ex Zat Al Nitaq, two times winner of Al Wathba Stud Farm Cup and could cruise to his third title of the prestigious competition.

“Reaching the 16th round of the series is an achievement by itself,” said Abdulla Al Qubaisi, director of Communications, Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority said.

“The series which are originally introduced to support small breeders and farmers has received the cooperation of all parties involved and proceeding from one success to another,” he added.

“Our immediate target at the authority is to set up a long term strategy for varying events, including the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup and the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship IFAHR, is to provide utmost support and backing for Arabian races worldwide.

Lara Sawaya, dire ctor of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival and Head of IFAHR ladies racing said: “We are delighted to see small breeders and owners of Arabian horses responding with deep understanding of the mission and objectives of the festival.

“We are truly obliged to the farsightedness vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in launching this campaign which is paying dividends and hitting the highest level of success and progress,” she added.

Abdul Rahim Al Hashemi, director of public relations and external cooperation at the Women’s General Union praised the role of the festival in promoting UAE and Abu Dhabi worldwide.

Sultan Al Nuaimi, director of Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club said: “The farsightedness vision of HH Sheikh Mansoor has paid off and the festival is introducing UAE while strengthen its ties with the rest of the world.”
The same opinion was echoed by Talal Al Hashemi who thanked HH Sheikh Mansoor for the brilliant initiative.

Stephen Bowey, Executive Director (Corporate Development) Invest AD pledged determination to continue their partnership with the festival in order to achieve all its goals.

The HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival is organized by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and co-ordinated by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in association with Emirates Racing Authority, IFAHR and Emirates Arabian Horse Society, supported by General Authority for Youth and Sports and Fegentri with Emirates airlines as the official carrier and sponsored by Invest AD, Al Rashid Investment, Areej Al Ameerat, Mauzan, AlAwani General Enterprises, Kabale, t he UAE’s General Women’s Union, the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2012,Wathba Stud Farm and Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.
