Fanal El Samawi wins Wathba Cup in Germany

Fanal El Samawi won the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’s second Al Wathba Stud Farm Cup race held in Miesau, Germany on Sunday (August 26).

Eleven horses started in the 1400-metre race which was open to horses aged three years and above.

Fanal El Samawi was driven home to a great finish by jockey  Marian Falk Weissmeier  to give owner-trainer  Waltraut Gottschalk a smart victory in the race which is being organised by the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival to promote Purebred Arabian horse racing at the grass-roots level all over the globe.

Ghilali, a son of Dormane, owned by Regine Weissmeier and by Guy Authier, finished second under jockey Fabian Xaver Weissmeier while Ussam de Carrere finished third in the 11-horse field.

Ussam de Carrere is owned and trained by Mrs Annegret Steinhart and was ridden by amateur jockey  Lena Maria Mattes.

“Sunday’s is the second  Wathba Stud Farm Cup race to be held in Germany and the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival has this year staged the World Arabian Racing Conference and the prestigious Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultyan Al Nahyan Cup and the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship IFAHR race earlier this year,” said Ms Lara Sawaya, Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival and head of IFAHR ladies racing.

The HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival is organized by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and co-ordinated by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in association with Emirates Racing Authority, IFAHR and Emirates Arabian Horse Society, supported by General Authority for Youth and Sports and Fegentri with Emirates airlines as the official carrier and sponsored by Invest AD, Al Rashid Investment, Areej Al Ameerat, Mauzan, AlAwani General Enterprises, Kabale, the UAE’s General Women’s Union, the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2012,Wathba Stud Farm and Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.
